South African Visit

Driving a very conspicuous coloured hire-car three visitors from South Africa stayed a night with us in October.
They were touring SRS studs in Australia to learn more about the concept, however we felt that we also learnt a multitude of bits and pieces from them ranging from sheep procedures to Safari Park stories.
Eddie, Jan & Willem are very diligent producers and are moving ahead in many agricultural areas.

June / July 2005 drop ewes

16th May 2006

Keri-Keri sent 550 of last years June/July drop wether lambs off to a contract feedlot at Sealake in Victoria.

5th and 6th May

Keri-Keri travels to Broken Hill's 9th  2006 Biennial Agfair.

Each event attracts around 12,000 visitors over two days. Attractions at the Agfair are agricultural and horticultural displays, machinery and equipment, rural merchandise & clothing even as far as rural gardens and nursery displays.

This year 6 SRS studs displayed in a large SRS Company Site. The participants being Australian Meat Merino, Baderloo Poll Merino Stud (Spalding, SA), East Loddon Merino Stud (Serpentine, Vic), Kelvale Poll Merino Stud (Farrell Flat, SA), Keri-Keri Merino Stud (Moulamein, NSW) and Leahcim Poll Merino Stud (Snowtown, SA).

Keri-Keri took:

* 8 June/July 2004 drop Maiden Top Stud ewes (Sept. shorn).
* 3 Keri-Keri sires
- Keri-Keri W8107 (4Teater), now 8 years old and still attracting interest
- Keri-Keri R2445 (4Teater)
- Keri-Keri Y4012
* 5 June/July 2005 drop Ram lambs - never shorn.

The site had a large display of poll and horned merinos - ewes and rams. Wool on display. Andrew Michael from Leahcim Poll Merino Stud had data that created a lot of interest from Meat & Livestock Australia, and showed many people how they can access the figures and use them to their advantage.

Agfair 2006 was extremely worthwhile for all the studs. Interest is coming back to the Merino in the pastoral area as it survives, thrives and can produce a wool income on top of meat. Many people said they had tried all the latest "fad" sheep but didn't get the results they had been promised.
