John & Marilyn Smith

October 2011

Congratulations to John & Marilyn whose sheep looked phenomenal at the Lameroo Sheep Sale - held 14th October 2011.
Their 74 March / April 2010 drop ewes made $224.00.
Photo taken below at the sale yards on sale day.

John and Marilyn also achieved a lambing percentage in 2011 of 127%.

A great line of surplus ewes after classing. These ewes were kept to increase numbers for prime lamb production.

In October 2010 Cash Pastoral Company sold:

240 May / June 2009 drop M&TS ewes. Shorn 16th August 2010 and treated with Eureka Gold backliner.
Ewes sold at auction for $130.00 per head.

August 2010 Lambing Percentages

Maiden Ewes (2 year old) - 260 ewes with 281 lambs. 107%.

4 Year Old Ewes - 270 ewes with 322 lambs. 119%.

3 Year Old Ewes - 272 ewes with 320 lambs. 117%.

December 2010
Fly strike percentages.

At lamb marking there was only one lamb struck and none since.

It was an unusually wet & humid summer and the sheep had 290mm (11.5 inches) of rain on them from the end of September until the end of December 2010.

At crutching the adult sheep's fly strike rate was :
     680      '09 drop wethers - nil.
     1641    '07-'08 drop wethers - 1 (0.06%)
     823      '09 drop ewes - 17 (2.06%)
     590      '08 drop ewes - 5 (0.84%)
     770      mixed age ewes - 2 (0.25%)
     715      mixed age ewes in channels with very long grass - 10 (1.39%)
     260      stud ewes - nil.
Total flock strike rate of only 0.63% - not even 1%.


November 2010 - Photos of their country & lambs on the way in for marking.
There had between 165 mm and 270mm in the two months since September2010, and they have never seen the country look this good at this time of the year.














2010 - "we recently entered a pen of young ewes in the Landsborough Flock Ewe competition at Muttaburra north of Longreach. They were Aug/Sept 09 drop ewes unshorn. Nicely grown with some lovely wool.
There were 35 pens of sheep of all ages. Our ewes took out the Unshorn Lambs, Champion Pen bred North of the Tropic, Grand Champion pen of the day from all ages and the Northern Zone championship which is from all the Western Flock ewe competitions."

2009 - "we entered a team of 5 young wethers in the Longreach Show Wether trial at the Rosebank Research station outside Longreach.
They were all shorn and weighed recently and the 5 Colanya boys won the Highest Average carcase valuation out of the 19 teams."

VERY large wether. The Mahys photographed this wether that got left behind when they sold the rest. In the photo it is a same aged ewe standing in front of him.

"St Pauls"

October 2007

300 St Pauls surplus ewes were sold October ’07. These ewes were May/June 2006 drop, Keri-Keri blood.
They made $92.00 each.
This sale of ewes being an endorsing follow on from his August ’07 sale of 304 ’06 drop wethers at an average price of $79.98 per head, averaging 21.4kg dressed.
